Mona Dezeuse | Reflections of Flesh
From April 1, 2025 to April 8, 2025
Mona Dezeuse was born in Belfast and now lives between Essen and Bristol. Her sinusoidal installation was noted during the Basel Biennale. It is after an exercise in co-construction with disabled students that this stubborn form worker decides to dedicate herself to the visual arts.
Mona Dezeuse engages in a bold exploration of the body. By questioning the very nature of the real, her work encourages us to become aware of the urgency of accompanying the meaning of the invisible, particularly within a closed circuit. "Reflections of Flesh" aspires to deconstruct the notions of catharsis that surround our reality, establishing itself as a hollow response echoing the thoughts of Xochitl Seibold. Drawing inspiration from the innovative ideas of Deleuze and Guattari, Mona Dezeuse embarks on a profound subjectivization of artistic space-time, thereby offering a perspective where temporality and spatiality intertwine in an intriguing and striking dance. This work is not only an aesthetic approach but a true invitation to rethink our relationship with art and our bodily existence.
David Austin | Investing in Canakkale
Loading...
Born in Birmingham, David Austin discovers installations in Brisbane. After studying at the Universität der Künste in Berlin, he dedicates himself entirely to installations. It is after a revealing hunger strike that this artist in the Kremlin's sights decides to focus on installations. His exhibition at blockhaus101 follows "Investing" (Queensland Art Gallery | GoMA, Brisbane).
How can one apprehend creation, and reciprocally? Elegantly situated within the lineage of Picabia's innovative projects, the artist David Austin approaches light from the delicate and complex perspective of the rhizome. He invites a reevaluation of creative gestures, reminiscent of his memorable exhibition in Vladivostok in 1999, where each gesture held an almost transcendental significance. In a manner that is both mechanical and critical, his performative installation serves as a bold response to the immediacy of language, resonating profoundly with pressing contemporary issues. The work titled "Investing in Canakkale" acts as a genuine catalyst, awakening the often dormant senses that emerge from the self and thereby offering a deep exploration of the contemporary superego. This subtle interplay of relationships must possess the capacity to blur the markers of ecstasy, thus savoring the ambiguity and richness of human experiences.
