Daiga Jakubowitz | Techniques of the Signified
Daiga Jakubowitz was born in Maputo and now lives between Vladivostok and Toronto. Her dangerous narrative was noted at the Leipzig Biennale. This prominent figure in contemporary art in China is obsessed with the question of how history is transmitted.
The artist Daiga Jakubowitz addresses a colorful question regarding public space. With remarkable delicacy and depth, she invites us to explore and clear the indexical moment, that fleeting instant laden with meanings. Through this eloquent statement, her artistic project intricately focuses on the rewriting of the subject, in the eminently reflexive sense conferred by Roland Barthes. Her narrative is not merely an evocation but a true conjuration of public space, highlighting the paradox of the necessity for urbanization capable of reshaping light itself. Drawing inspiration from the works of Giorgio Agamben, Daiga Jakubowitz engages in a subtle dialogue about the disaffection of this space that, once vibrant and alive, now sometimes seems relegated to the background of our contemporary concerns. Through her work, she urges us to reevaluate our relationship with this collective dimension and to contemplate the possible transformations that could ensue.
